I know that I am going to ruffle some feathers here and probably offend some of you, but I make no apologies for it.

I was reading a baseball strength & conditioning discussion forum the other day and it was downright upsetting how many people are dead wrong about strength & conditioning for power hitters. I would have posted my opinion on the topic, but I am no longer a welcome contributor… they banned me a few years ago when I made the absurd suggestion that pitchers should stop running long distance and start lifting heavy weights!

Anyway, the initial question was something along the lines of, “What muscle groups should I be training in order to hit for more power?”

Searching through over 3 pages or answers to the question showed me that about 85% of the replies were the same… Forearms. In fact, one reply was “Forearms, Forearms, & More Forearms! Do them every morning and ever night!”

What are the best workouts for baseball players?

I play 2nd base for varsity baseball team and need to get bigger whcih workouts can i do that will help out my baseball performane.

My coach has us run atleast 1.5 miles a day, 3-4 times a week. Then run stadium/bleacher stairs to build leg strengths. Also do sprints of 60,90, and 120 feet. This will get your legs stronger. Lift weights if your school has a gym available or if you are a member of a gym. Do a lot of leg and shoulder workouts.Throw a few times a week with a friend, hopefully another infielder. Take infield practice a second but also SS and 3rd because it will help your arm but also you might have to play there if someone gets hurt. Hit off a tee, do soft toss, and eventually start taking batting practice. Start now so your in good shape for baseball.
