OK, so maybe I have a touch of ADD or something, but I was sitting down to write a blog post about strength & power development for baseball players ( I know, it would take at least 2 posts to cover that topic
but instead of writing first I checked my email.
I am on a ton of mailing lists because I like to read what other people in both the baseball industry and other industries are up to.
Anyway, I got a great email from Seth Godin about doing work. If you don’t know who Seth is… You should! He’s a great example of how to be a leader that people are eager and excited to follow.
The post basically said that if you are going to do work you might as well give 100% effort to get the most out of what you are doing.
Kind of ironic that I found the email as I was putting off the work of writing the blog post, huh?
Think about it, how long do you every really spend on any given task?[bulleted scheme="checkred"]
- Homework – 45 minutes?
- Workouts – 60-90 minutes?
- Baseball Practice – 2 hours (split into 15-20 minute stations)?[/bulleted]
If you can focus all of your effort & attention to the details at hand for those short blocks of time how much more productive do you think you would be as a ballplayer?
Same goes for coaches.
When we are working with our ballplayers we are really only spending a few minutes at a time with each kid before moving onto the next athlete or task. Let’s give these guys everything we’ve got for those few moments before we move onto the next. They will get a lot more out of our coaching and be a more productive ballplayer because of it.
Just some food for thought as you go into the weekend… If you are going to work… Work Hard!
