It really has nothing to offer me, especially since I got rid of my Camaro and can’t do crazy donuts in the snow anymore. Sure, I enjoy an occasional snow day and love watching my dog have a blast trying to find the snow balls that I throw for her.

“People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.” — Rogers Hornsby<!--

But as much as I hate the winter and can’t stand any of the winter sports I love watching the Winter Olympics. I don’t understand the events for the most part and the only thing I like about ice skating is watching them fall down… hard!

So, if I don’t like the events, why do I like watching the Olympics?

Hey Guys,

I’ve got a few videos that I will be posting to the site later today, but for now I want to take a break from the ordinary.

As much as I love the baseball seasons (spring, summer, & fall), I am a Christmas junkie! I love the time spent with family & friends just hanging out watching the kids have a blast with new toys and watching the dog rip the wrapping paper to shreds.
It’s without question my favorite time of year.

But like you probably do, I get so caught up in the hustle & bustle of it all that we really miss some of the best parts of this time of year.

It kind of reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite all time moves, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, “It’s Christmas and we’re all in misery!”

So take a minute and read the following story about the original “Secret Santa”. But don’t just make it a feel good story. Make it a DO good story. Head out today and perform at least one random act of kindness for someone.

You don’t know how holding a door for a single mom after a long hard day at work might brighten her day just a little bit.

Maybe it’s freezing cold and you’ve got the jumper cables to help the guy stranded in the parking lot.

Maybe you’ve just got an extra dollar or two in your pocket to buy a coffee for the guy behind you in line at Dunkin’.

Heck, maybe you can call a local church or shelter and as about a family in need and adopt them this Christmas season picking up some gifts (and maybe a tree with some lights).

Do what you can with what you’ve been blessed with. It’ll be the best gift you can give yourself this year.

Just keep your eyes open to the world around you at this crazy time of year and help someone out. I guarantee you it will make you feel just as good as the person you are helping.

Check out Larry’s story at:
http://www.daveramsey.com/article/remembering-secret-santa/

Enjoy the season and do something good for someone who isn’t expecting it with no expectation of anything in return.

Thanks for reading this far & I’ll have some baseball stuff up later today for you.

Yours in Baseball & Holiday Cheer!
Coach Dan Huff

I know that I am going to ruffle some feathers here and probably offend some of you, but I make no apologies for it.

I was reading a baseball strength & conditioning discussion forum the other day and it was downright upsetting how many people are dead wrong about strength & conditioning for power hitters. I would have posted my opinion on the topic, but I am no longer a welcome contributor… they banned me a few years ago when I made the absurd suggestion that pitchers should stop running long distance and start lifting heavy weights!

Anyway, the initial question was something along the lines of, “What muscle groups should I be training in order to hit for more power?”

Searching through over 3 pages or answers to the question showed me that about 85% of the replies were the same… Forearms. In fact, one reply was “Forearms, Forearms, & More Forearms! Do them every morning and ever night!”

Hey Guys,

If you’re a down & dirty baseball guy you might not want to read any further cause I might cause you to think about your emotional side… sorry!

Today I have experienced 2 of the most amazing honors of my life & professional career.

First, I had the honor of being asked to do a presentation on speed training for baseball to a small group of baseball coaches. Being asked to speak is always an honor in and of itself, but being associated with this group of speakers is simply humbling! I was speaking along side experts such as Ron Wolforth, Tom Hanson, Jonanthan “Zinger”, Jeff Cavalier, & Paul Reddick… talk about a panel of experts, huh?

On top of that, I got to meet some of my loyal long time readers & customers. As humbled as I am to be included with such an amazing panel of speakers, I’m even more humbled that you (yes, you specifically since you are reading this far) trust me to provide you with quality information to improve the performance of your baseball players. It’s an amazing thing when I get to shake your hands instead of just being a guy on the other end of an e-mail, blog post, or online video. You guys (and your baseball players) are the reason that I (and the other guys that I mentioned) do what we do, and by being our customers you give us the ability to do what we really love to do and I can’t thank you enough for that!

And that leads onto the second amazing & humbling experience that I had today.

Talking with one of you guys at the seminar today we kinda got off of the baseball topic and onto the topic of family. Because you guys are so amazingly supportive of what we do, I get to spend more time at home with my 2 1/2 year old son. In fact, tonight is movie night so we are getting ready to watch Shrek as I type. If it wasn’t for you guys being such awesome coaches & baseball parents I wouldn’t have the life that I do today. Thank You from the bottom of my heart!

So what go me thinking so “mushy” today?

Well, Tony V. paid me a great comment and it got me thinking about you guys as coaches and the coaches that are giving up their entire weekend to hang out and listen to seminars. Why do you invest so much time & money into educating yourself? If you’re saying that it’s to be a better coach I am going to argue that you are lying to yourself and not giving yourself enough credit.

You spend your valuable time, energy, & hard earned money to improve the ability of your baseball players. Sure, that will result in more wins but thats just an added bonus really. Your dedication to making better baseball players is what really makes you a great coach and I applaud that!

So Thank You for your support of what I do with BaseballStrength.com!

Thank You for dedicating yourself to helping each and every one of your baseball players reach their fullest potential!

Thank You!
