Baseball workouts for a high school player?

Hi i am 6 foot 262 pounds. I need baseball workout to help me become a better baseball player. I know i need alot of cardio but how much cardio should i do. also what workouts should i do. I have access to a gym. I play First base and pitcher. I am going to be a senior next year.

Hi buddy. Despite some of the recent success of some of the "bigger" pitcher’s in the game like C.C. Sabathia, Bartolo Colon, and David Wells…carrying too much weight with you out to the mound is not good for your long term results in the game. Obviously, you agree and are trying to lose weight. However, trying to use cardio as your primary focus will not help you! Yes, that’s right. I strongly believe that cardio (besides it’s benefits to your heart) is a waste of time when trying to lose weight. Concentrate instead on consuming a better diet. Cut down as much as possible on the unhealthy fats and snack food like soda, chips, nachos, etc. And eliminate obvious desserts and sweets and you’ll start dropping weight very quickly. Of course, you should do this while participating in a workout program that aims to increase your overall muscle tone, and if at the same time it works on your baseball skills…then consider you’ve found the jackpot! I can point you in the right direction as far as the workout specifics go. Take a look at the Major League Insider Training System that I created with Cy Young Award Winner Johan Santana (that also contains dietary advice and information). I know that would work for you given your access to a gym. Hope this helps! Jeff
